ODDBALLS’

Oddballs' is situated on the edge of Chief's Island, deep in the heart of the Okavango Delta. The camp is accessible by light aircraft only and is a 20-minute scenic flight from Maun over the Delta. On your arrival you will be met at the airstrip and welcomed to the island by the camp managers who will introduce you to your guide.  Your guide will be yours for the duration of your stay.
Accommodation is in 2 man dome tents that are set on elevated wooden decks, and shaded by reed shelters. Each tent is equipped with mattresses, duvets, linen, pillows, towels and a light.  Beautiful outdoor showers and ablutions are shared.

The central bar and lounge area has comfortable chairs and sofas, and a raised viewing deck overlooks the sweep of the delta – the perfect place to sip a sundowner and watch the sun set over the palm trees, and view whatever wildlife may be visiting. Activities are conducted by your own professional guide (a maximum of two guests per guide), a man of the swamp, born and bred. He has a mokoro (dug-out canoe) in which he will take you to nearby islands, where you will walk to view game and the spectacular landscape that is the Okavango. It might also be possible to visit his village, meet the elders and perhaps his family.

From the beginning of June until mid November an additional attraction at Oddballs' is a Mokoro Trail into the further reaches of the delta.  As there is no shop out at Oddballs’, all equipment and provisions are supplied by Oddballs’ and are packed into your mokoro as you set off with your guide for an unforgettable wilderness experience.  Camping equipment is provided (tent, sleeping mat and pillow, cutlery, crockery, pots and pans, food) but you must bring your own sleeping bag.   Your trail will take you along winding channels lined with reeds, into the Moremi Game Reserve, an area renowned for its diverse bird and animal life.   For those guest wanting to experience the Mokoro Trail there is a minimum of 4 nights stay, your first and last nights will be spent at Oddballs’ and then your middle 2 (or more) nights are spent on the Mokoro Trail.

Activities at Oddballs’ include guided game walks on Chief’s Island in the Moremi Game Reserve and mokoro excursions.

CHOBE SAFARI LODGE

On Botswana's far northern border lies the Kwando, Linyanti and Chobe river system forming a series of lakes, islands and floodplains. This area forms the Chobe National Park, famous for its large buffalo and elephant herds. In addition to a variety of predators, there is an abundance of wild game and bird life that decorate these beautiful waterways.

Game viewing at Chobe Safari Lodge is a unique experience as the lodge is situated on the doorstep of the Chobe National Park, which hosts the largest concentration of wildlife in southern Africa.  The National Park is the best place in the world to see the majestic African elephant for it is home to the world’s largest elephant population. Game drives into the Chobe National Park depart three times daily. Alternatively, choose a full day’s game drive, including picnic lunch.

Accommodation at Chobe Safari Lodge is in luxury en-suite rooms overlooking the Chobe River.

GUNNS MAIN CAMP

Overlooking the legendary Chiefs Island and bordering the Moremi Game Reserve, Gunn’s Camp is one of the last few remaining luxury vintage safari camps, set under leafy palms and African Ebony to blend naturally with its unique surroundings.

Your African experience starts with a twenty-minute light aircraft transfer from Maun over the southwestern Delta, taking in the magnificence of the winding, papyrus fringed channels that make up one of the worlds greatest wet land wonders. You will also be able to see some of Africa’s most celebrated animals from your seat – 500 FT above the ground.

Here you will be met at our private airstrip by our Camp Managers, and taken to our elevated main lodge area for a welcoming refreshment, and then shown to your en-suite spacious tented accommodation, which consists of seven spacious, Kenya - style tents. For those wanting a bit more romance, we have an elevated thatched honeymoon chalet overlooking the main channel of the Delta, with a private veranda. At Gunn’s Camp we have achieved a fine balance of comfort without isolating one’s self from the sights and sounds of nature.

The main activities are mokoro (traditional dug out canoes) powerboat excursions, and guided game walks with our experienced guides who have spent their lives accumulating knowledge and understanding of the complex ecosystem of the Okavango Delta. As they show how to silently observe nature with minimal impact you will begin to realize the privilege and quiet excitement of being in one of those places that makes memories for you.

Chiefs Island where your activities take place offers one of the largest populations of African wildlife in the Delta area. Sightings may include lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and packs of wild dog running across the plains of the Delta. Our concession is also home to hippo, crocodiles, plains zebra and a variety of buck, including the red lechwe.

Gunn’s Camp is renowned for being a birders paradise, with over 240 species of bird including the rare Pel’s Fishing Owl and the endangered Wattled Crane.

In the evenings you can relax in our elevated main lodge, or lie in the swimming pool sipping your drink watching the majesty of the African sunset, whilst reflecting on your day with fellow guests.

Gunn's Main Camp accommodation is in 7 luxury meru tents with ensuite bathrooms, there is a combination of twin and double-bedded tents, so please request your preference. In addition there is an elevated honeymoon suite under thatch with a private balcony. Contact our Sales Office for details on honeymoon packages. All tents have lighting provided by generated electricity.
